The Daily Dibber

Kitchen gardener for the Darsham Nurseries Cafe. Seedaholic. Grower and lover of food and flowers.

O Seed D Part 1

The potager is now fully planted for winter and early spring. Seedaholics by our very nature don’t rest on our laurels. The dibber may be slowing down but the mind is racing.

What does next year hold?

What new varieties are available?

Is there a new super radish? Lola unclench your teeth.

Can I find the ultimate courgette?

The deepest red lettuce, who stocks it?

More importantly, what is David’s credit limit?

I can finally rip the cellophane from the piles of seed catalogues that have accumulated from the postbox. This is when I truly am grateful for the internet, hours and hours of fun. It pains me to admit it it but the American seed companies are the best at introducing new exciting varieties. There won’t be many tomatoes suggested as I don’t want to trod on a certain someones Chuck Taylors.

This page is one of many about new vegetables, but there will also be a page on new flowers….naturally.

One of my favourite seed companies is Bakers Creek seeds, based in Missouri. They have an amazing selection, and always have new and interesting varieties. Obviously there is the postage expense, but the germination rate is superb so I can justify the following 2016 choices:

Pusa Jamun Radish, ooh Lola look.
